SEARCH ENGINES

Search engine submission by definition needs to be a fluid business, as search engine criteria change on an almost constant basis, and it is critical that Submit responds to these changes in an efficient and timely manner and is not hampered by restrictive terms and conditions. Our underlying aim with Submit is to ensure that your web site performs better than it did before you subscribed to the service.

For this reason, and before detailing which search engines we submit to and how regularly, WE MUST RESERVE THE RIGHT TO ALTER THE NUMBER AND IDENTITY OF SEARCH ENGINES TO WHICH WE SUBMIT AND THE FREQUENCY WITH WHICH WE SUBMIT AT ANY TIME DURING THE PERIOD OF THE CONTRACT.

The below describes the current procedure that applies to the submission process:

GOOGLE - Google is a global search engine and as such all regional variations are effectively a sub-set of the global engine. Google does not encourage automated regular submissions. In fact, it has introduced a "test" on its submission page to identify automated submissions. Against this, it is well proven that regular submission to Google is certainly an affective way of getting included in its index, and arguably actually results in improved performance. As a result, the Submit system first of all checks Google's global index to see if all the pages of your site are included in the index. If they are included, no further action is taken. If they are not included, all pages that are not included are placed in a queue for manual submission by one of our operators. In addition, every three months the whole database is manually submitted to Google's index.

YAHOO - Yahoo is similarly a global engine. Submission to the global index is automated and occurs every two weeks.

MSN - Currently MSN have a system in place that means that submissions must be made manually. For this reason a similar procedure to Google operates (see above).

ASK - Ask Jeeves does not currently facilitate submission to its index, but rather relies on spidering the Web. Submission to Yahoo is covered by inclusion in directories (see below)

AOL - AOL is powered by Google and in this respect the above submission procedure in respect of Google applies

In addition to the treatment of the above major search engines we will add additional search engines over time. Our criteria for addition will be that either the level of traffic they generate is sufficient to warrant inclusion in the system, or they create static pages of their listings that will get spidered by the major engines and result in improved performance in those engines.

DIRECTORIES

As is probably well known in the search engine optimisation world now, a key element of achieving success in the search engines is having as many links into your web site as possible and for the quality of these links to be as good as possible.

For this reason we have enhanced Submit to include within the price inclusion within a number of directories that are well-indexed and well rated by the major search engines. For what may be obvious reasons to some, we do not disclose the identity of these directories. There are currently 5 directories which your site will be included in, but over time this number will be expanded.
